NHA turns 33

This October 15, 2008, the National Housing Authority (NHA) marks 33 years of providing affordable and decent shelter to homeless poor Filipino. A weeklong celebration will revolve around the theme, " The Power to build ... Committed Concerted, Connected" as a way of reflecting the new paradigm adapted to alleviate the housing problem. NHA Housing Units Production up by 93%

The National Housing Authority produced 21,567 completed units generated from 25 projects nationwide from January to July 2008, posting an increase of 93 percent in housing completions over the same period last year. Production completions from January to July last year was recorded at 11, 200 units. NHA General Manager Federico A. Laxa noted that for the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, NHA production posted impressive accomplishments with an annual average of 40,000 units surpassing the previous 10-year average of 25,000 units. GM Laxa attributes the production momentum to the new paradigm NHA adopted particularly for rail resettlement. “The beneficiaries themselves now participate in the decision for resettlement sites with implementation of the Local Inter-Agency Committee (LIAC). Unlike before where resettlement sites were inauspicious for development, today’s sites are close to the original colonies whenever possible.” Volunteer rates are up with almost nil complaints enabling the staff to focus on relocation and not fending off nasty attacks.. more...
